CM360 & Ad Ops Interview Questions and Answers
The ad server questions nobody prepares for.
97 real interview questions on CM360, Floodlight, trafficking and discrepancy issue — each one answered four ways, including the thirty-second version you say out loud. 295 pages.

You can define a Floodlight tag. That was never the question.
Everyone preparing for an ad ops role learns the vocabulary. Impressions, placements, click trackers, view-through. You can explain what a Floodlight tag does.
Then the interviewer says: "CM360 reports 40,000 impressions. The publisher invoiced for 46,000. Walk me through it."
There are about eleven reasons that gap exists, they interact, and the ones that end interviews are not the obvious ones. Nothing you read on a blog prepares you for it, because a discrepancy is not a definition — it's a diagnosis, done under pressure, out loud, in front of someone who has already fixed it forty times.
The ad server is where ad ops interviews are actually decided. It's the part with the fewest good resources.
Every question is answered four ways
Once you've read two or three, you know exactly where to look for what you need.
The 30-second answer
What you actually say out loud when asked. Tight, complete, short enough to deliver without notes. One evening before an interview? Read only these.
The concept, broken down simply
The same idea without jargon — usually through something outside advertising entirely: a restaurant kitchen, a delivery service, a shop till. This is what makes the answer yours instead of memorised, and it's what lets you handle the follow-up you didn't prepare for.
The practitioner example
A real scenario with real numbers, worked step by step, so you can reproduce the arithmetic on a whiteboard. Interviewers ask "have you actually done this?" — this is the detail that proves it.
What they're really testing
Why the question is on the list at all, plus the specific wrong answers that end interviews. Marked with ✗ throughout — these aren't imperfect answers, they're the ones that actively cost people offers.
Eleven chapters, four parts, one reference section you'll keep open at work
Two chapters worth buying it for
Chapter 8 — The Formula Vault. Arithmetic under pressure is the single most common way good candidates lose offers. Not because the maths is hard, but because doing it out loud while someone watches is a different skill from doing it in a spreadsheet.
Chapter 10 — The Diagnostic Triage Manual. Written as a working manual rather than revision: the order of operations to follow when something breaks at 4:50pm on a Friday. People who already have the job read this one first.
All worked examples use Indian rupees at realistic Indian media-plan scale. The arithmetic is identical in any currency — only the digits change.

₹1,299 against what the interview is worth
Dinner is one number. Here's the one that matters more — what ad ops and programmatic pay in India, by rung:
Clearing one step is worth roughly ₹2,00,000 a year — every year, compounding into every salary you negotiate after it.
This book costs 0.6% of that. Less than a single day's pay at the job you're interviewing for.
What else ₹1,299 buys you
A resume gets you into the room. None of the other three tell you what to say once you're in it, or what the wrong answer sounds like.
Three ways to use it
Your interview is tomorrow
Read the 30-second answers only, in order, plus the red flags in part four. That's roughly ninety minutes. Then read Chapter 8, The Formula Vault, properly — arithmetic under pressure is the single most common way good candidates lose offers.
You have a week
One part per evening. Do the drill at the end of each chapter before you look at the answers in the back. A question you can answer silently is not the same as one you can answer out loud, and the gap between the two is exactly what an interview measures.
You're already in the job
Read Part IV first. The triage chapter is a working manual, not revision — it's the order of operations when something breaks at 4:50pm on a Friday. Then keep the reference section at the back within reach.
The one instruction that matters: say the answers out loud. Not in your head — out loud, to a wall if necessary. Almost every candidate who fails an interview on knowledge they demonstrably had, failed because the first time they ever assembled the sentence was in the room.
Interviewing across the stack, not just the ad server?
Most candidates can talk about one platform. The ones who get hired fastest can talk across all three.

Questions people ask before buying
Does this cover 2026 platform updates?
Everything reflects publicly documented behaviour and common industry practice as at August 2026. Where a change has been announced but isn't live yet, it's marked with a DATED box giving the effective date — so you can tell what's true today from what will be true shortly. And where a widely repeated industry claim isn't supported by vendor documentation, the book says so rather than repeating it.
How is this different from the DV360 Programmatic book?
Different side of the stack. The DV360 book is the buy side — bidding, targeting, campaign delivery. This one is the ad server: trafficking, Floodlight, discrepancies, verification, triage. There's a short section at the front for people who own both, so you're not re-reading overlap.
My interview is tomorrow. Can I still use this?
Yes, and there's a route written for exactly that. Read the 30-second answers only, in order, plus the red flags — about ninety minutes — then Chapter 8 properly. Don't start at page one.
Is this useful if I'm a fresher with no CM360 access?
Yes. Every question includes a plain-English breakdown that explains the concept through something outside advertising entirely, which is what lets you answer a follow-up you didn't prepare for. You don't need a live seat to learn what a discrepancy is or why it happens.
Does it cover programmatic troubleshooting?
Part II covers auction mechanics, data and audience targeting, and DV360 architecture from the ad server's side. Part IV is the triage manual. If you want the buy side in depth, that's the DV360 book.
Is GST included in ₹1,299?
No — Gumroad adds 18% GST at checkout for Indian buyers, so the total is ₹1,533. Gumroad collects and remits it.
Is this a PDF I can download and keep?
Yes. A 295-page PDF, delivered instantly after payment, yours to keep and print one copy of. The licence covers one reader — see our Terms of Service.
Can I get a refund?
Digital files can't be un-delivered, so sales are final — with the exceptions in our Refund & Cancellation Policy: non-delivery, a corrupted file, a duplicate charge, or the wrong product. Email us within 7 days.
